Despite some recent inconsistency, this match sets up well for Djurgården to record a routine win over a limited and depleted Öster side. With their league clash against Brommapojkarna postponed, Djurgården have been afforded the chance to play their strongest available side here – something they took full advantage of in Vienna last week.
There’s no ignoring the absence of attacking trio Aslund, Zugelj and Fallenius, nor the missing metronome Schüller in midfield. But even without them, Djurgården’s defence-first improvement under their new coach has been clear. With the Conference League semi-final against Chelsea looming, they’ll be keen to wrap this match up professionally and early, and then shift into energy-conservation mode.
Öster will be fresher, having only played four matches so far this season, but with Seger (midfield) and Sanyang (attack) both missing, they look short of ideas. Their most recent matches – two 1-0 losses – have been turgid affairs, and their shot creation numbers don’t suggest they’ll trouble Djurgården here.
If Djurgården hit their stride early and go ahead, they should cruise to a comfortable 1-0 or 2-0 victory. Backing Djurgården -1.0 on the Asian Handicap offers a free hit if they only scrape a one-goal win, and has strong upside given the gulf in quality.
