Blackburn look to be good value on the positive handicap as they travel to face a struggling Millwall side without a recognised manager and in poor form. Millwall’s situation has been destabilised since Neil Harris stepped down following a heated argument with fans after their 1-0 loss to Coventry, he took charge of the following two losses to Middlesborough and Sheffield United but they now play their first game without him at the helm, with no experienced manager brought in to take his place. Millwall are winless in their last six games (three draws followed by three losses), and their attacking struggles have been glaring—they have failed to score in their last three matches and have scored more than one goal in only four of their 20 league games this season, failing to score more than one in any of their last thirteen games. Captain and key centre back Jake Cooper remains sidelined, and his absence has been felt; the Lions have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five games, a big difference to the strong defence seen earlier in the season, with Cooper helping his side to seven clean sheets in their opening fifteen games. Shaun Hutchinson, the preferred replacement, is a doubt after missing the last three matches, leaving Millwall potentially reliant on 31-year-old Murray Wallace in a fragile backline.
In stark contrast, Blackburn enter this game as the most in-form team in the league, boasting six consecutive wins, the last five all to nil. Their recent victories include a 1-0 home win over high-flying Leeds and a 2-0 victory against relegated Southampton. Importantly, Blackburn have turned their away form around, winning four straight road games in this run. Their confidence will also be bolstered by an impressive head-to-head record, with no losses in their last eight meetings with Millwall (five wins, three draws), including three wins and a draw in their last four visits to The Den. Blackburn have no new injury concerns and are further strengthened by the return of Todd Cantwell from suspension. Cantwell was pivotal in recent wins over Middlesbrough and Leeds, contributing directly to goals in both matches. Additionally, right-back Callum Brittain and veteran midfielder Andreas Weimann are back in training and should make the squad, adding depth and experience.
With Millwall’s managerial instability, poor form, and defensive fragility, Blackburn’s red-hot form and solid track record at The Den makes their price of 1.91 on the +0.25 Asian Handicap very appealing.
