Morton host Partick Thistle on Saturday in the Scottish Championship. Just four points separate the sides in the league, with Thistle occupying 4th and the final play-off spot for promotion to the top flight. Morton are effectively safe from relegation with 3 teams and 14 points filling the gap between the Ton and the relegation playoffs. Manager Dougie Imrie has taken the handbrake off of late, and this was exemplified in Tuesday's meeting with Raith Rovers as he sacrificed a midfielder to throw an extra man forward from the start. The match unsurprisingly finished 3-3 in an end-to-end game that has been typical of Morton in recent weeks.
Due to the small league size in the Championship, this is the fourth time the sides meet this campaign on league duty. There was a 0-0 all the way back at the start of August at Thistle, but the two other matches have been 2-1 to Morton and a 2-2 draw. Since this last 2-2 draw, Morton have played 9 league matches. Despite occasionally playing without a recognised striker due to injuries to Stuparevic and Adeloye, they have scored a huge 1.78 goals per game across this spell from just 1.17 average xG. They have also conceded a huge amount of goals, with their concession at 1.56 per match from an average xG concession of 1.38.
Thistle parted ways with manager Kris Doolan after some unacceptable form in the middle of the season. The switch has paid off as caretaker player-manager Brian Graham is now unbeaten in 5 since the change, conceding just 0.4 goals per game despite an average xG concession of 1.04. They've scored at a rate of 1.2 goals per game from average xG of 1.3. In the two games before the manager switch however, Thistle conceded 8 goals across two away days at Falkirk and then Raith. Morton will be hoping to take advantage of this previously leaky defence, who have enjoyed 4 home games out of 5 under Graham. Thistle have kept just one clean sheet on their travels in 2025 against a struggling Queen's Park side. They will have to be at their best to keep out a freescoring Morton side who are hot on their tails for a playoff spot.
Striker Adeloye is back fit and among the goals after bagging Morton's 3rd on Tuesday against Raith. Strong midfielder Cammy Blues was given a rest for an hour on Tuesday, and scored within 2 minutes off the bench. While there may be some tired legs from the midweek match, the Morton squad is in a strong place in terms of injuries and availability. Thistle are likewise without many injury concerns, and both sides will be gunning for the three points at Cappielow on Saturday.
The Over goals line looks quite small at 2.25 as one goal for either side should see the floodgates open in the battle for the promotion playoffs. Best odds can be found at Bet365.
