Celtic and Aberdeen meet for the sixth time this season in the Scottish Cup Final, and the gulf between the two clubs could hardly be clearer. Brendan Rodgers’ men hold a commanding aggregate lead of 19-4 across the five previous encounters, including a 6-0 thrashing at Hampden in the League Cup semi-final. Aberdeen may have shown grit to reach this final, but they’ve routinely been outclassed by the dominant force in Scottish football. The Dons had a dismal end to their season, losing all of their last four games after the split. They scored just two goals in these last four games, and blew a 1-0 lead at Tannadice - and their hopes for qualifying for Europe via the league - on the final day of the season to the chagrin of the following Aberdeen support.

Celtic have turned Hampden Park into a fortress. They've won all of their last nine visits to the national stadium in domestic cups, needing extra time on only two occasions – and averaging 2.89 goals per game in the process. Even more impressively, four of those wins came against Rangers, underlining the strength of these performances. Their average xG of 1.82 and xGA of just 1.13 in these matches shows a clear trend: they turn up and dominate when it matters most. Celtic, having wrapped up the Premiership title a number of weeks ago, have had the benefit of managing their squad's workload at the business end of the season and are in prime position to lift the Scottish Cup yet again.

Aberdeen’s story this season is a far cry from their early form when they were wrongly billed as title outsiders. Since Aberdeen fought back to a 2-2 draw at Celtic Park in October, Rodgers' side have consistently torn them apart. Although Jimmy Thelin’s side have impressed in cup fixtures, they’ve done so against lesser opposition. Their semi-final win over Hearts needed extra time against nine men, and the gap in class compared to Celtic is significant.

Rodgers is unbeaten in 14 matches at Hampden and is chasing back-to-back Scottish Cup titles and yet another domestic treble. With Daizen Maeda in red-hot form and Adam Idah a proven match-winner on the big stage, it’s hard to see anything but a convincing win for the Hoops. Given the aggregate dominance this season and Celtic's unrivalled pedigree on big occasions, Celtic to win by at least two goals looks to have a much higher chance than the market suggests.
