Bohemians vs Derry City: League of Ireland Premier Division Preview
With both sides level on points and in pursuit of European qualification, Bohemians and Derry City renew their rivalry under the lights at Dalymount Park on Friday night in what promises to be a pivotal clash in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

Bohemians’ revival in form has seen them climb the table after a sluggish start to the 2025 campaign. Following just two wins in their opening nine games, Alan Reynolds' men have since claimed six victories in their last eight. That run included eye-catching wins over Galway United, Sligo Rovers, and reigning champions Shelbourne, though it came to a halt last weekend with a narrow 1-0 defeat to fellow top-three contenders Drogheda United. Despite dominating possession and creating more chances, Bohs were undone by a lack of cutting edge in the final third — a theme that has lingered throughout their season, with the team averaging just over a goal per game and ranking only eighth in the league for goals scored.
Dalymount Park has been a solid foundation for Bohemians, yielding 15 points from a possible 24, but they face a stern test in Derry City, who have proven to be a difficult opponent in recent years. The Candystripes have won four of the last five head-to-head meetings, including a 1-0 home win earlier this season in February, where Michael Duffy's early goal separated the sides.
Like their hosts, Derry also saw a strong run halted last time out. After a four-match unbeaten streak, Tiernan Lynch’s side suffered a frustrating 2-1 loss to leaders Shamrock Rovers, surrendering a late lead in a dramatic finish at the Brandywell. Still, five wins in their last eight league fixtures have kept Derry within striking distance of top spot, trailing the summit by just eight points as the campaign approaches its midpoint.
Bohemians welcome back Leigh Kavanagh to their defensive line after injury, but Alex Lacey remains out with a hamstring issue. Midfielder Dawson Devoy continues to be influential in the centre of the pitch, while Ross Tierney and Colm Whelan lead the team in scoring with four goals each.
Derry’s attack is spearheaded by Michael Duffy and Danny Mullen, who have combined for 11 league goals, with Duffy currently joint-third in the division’s scoring charts. Northern Ireland international Liam Boyce is expected to join the forward line again, with captain Mark Connolly anchoring the defence. Ben Doherty returned from a muscular injury as a substitute last weekend and is pushing for more minutes, while Shane Ferguson is also available on the flank.
With European places on the line and recent defeats fresh in both camps, Friday’s showdown between Bohemians and Derry City carries high stakes and promises another fiercely contested chapter in their recent rivalry.
