Celtic host Dundee in a rearranged match after Celtic Park was damaged in a recent storm. After selling talisman Kyogo to Rennes in a swap deal for winger Jota, Celtic are left with only one recognised senior striker in Adam Idah. Idah has stepped up since Kyogo's departure, scoring twice at Villa Park in the Champions League and bagging the decisive goal against Motherwell at the weekend.
Looking at a sample of the last five home matches in which Idah has led the line for Celtic, his side have won an average of 11.8 corners per game. They only managed less than 8 corners once in this sample, when they registered 6 corners at home against Motherwell on Boxing Day. In their match away at Motherwell on Sunday, Celtic took 10 corners as they battered down the door to kill the game off with a two goal cushion.
Dundee's approach to tonight's game will be much more cautious than their recent efforts. Having gone toe to toe with the Old Firm in two home draws in recent weeks, their attempts to do so against Hearts backfired spectacularly at the weekend. The in-form Edinburgh side left Dundee 6-0 victors in a devastating defeat. Dundee's average corner concession in their last 7 league away days has been 6, but our analysis suggests they will sit a lot deeper against Celtic given the need for damage limitation after their result against Hearts.
With Celtic less likely to play through the middle in the absence of Kyogo, Dundee sitting further back than usual and the usual Celtic bombardment in their home league matches, backing the home side to take 9 or more corners at just above 50% probability looks like a value bet tonight.
