Livingston host Airdrieonians on Tuesday after the match was delayed for three days due to the cold snap in the UK. Livi are looking to arrest a run of poor form that has seen them lose three consecutive matches, falling into 3rd in the league in the process. Airdrieonians continue to languish at the bottom of the table, with no change in their fortunes having conceded a 90th minute loser at Hamilton last time out.
Livi will be grateful for the opportunity presented by this match after three frustrating losses in recent weeks, with promotion rivals Ayr and Queen's Park both getting the advantage of them since the start of December. Last time out, Livi lost 2-0 at Queen's Park despite playing 25 minutes with a man advantage. Strong striker Stevie May hit the crossbar from a penalty to level the tie, and Queen's scored twice despite registering just two shots on target.
Airdrieonians injury issues have prevented them from mounting much of a challenge in the majority of their matches this season. With just one point from their last 10 matches, they look doomed to relegation already. Their squad issues don't get any easier, with strong CB Badley-Morgan recalled by parent club Stoke last week. Player-Manager McCabe filled in at CB in their last match and while they put up a fight by equalising twice against Hamilton, they will have been distraught at conceding an injury time loser in this match.
Airdrieonians bagged two goals at Hamilton to take their league tally to 10 goals for the season. With a goal difference of -29, it is evident that they have been incredibly poor at both ends of the pitch. Airdrieonians' xG creation is being rewarded with just 0.39 goals per 1 xG, a remarkably bad return. They are conceding an average of 1.90 xG per match, and conceding 2.05 goals per match. Livingston's defence at home has been almost impeccable this season with just 5 goals conceded in 9 matches. Having bolstered their defensive options with a strong Rangers LB on loan, it is difficult to see Airdrieonians mustering up an attacking threat at Livi on Tuesday.
Our analysis suggests Livingston will take full advantage of a home game against the division's struggling side to get their form back on track, and there is good value backing them to win with the -1.25 handicap.
